Get HYGGE with us throughout the month of February! Pronounced "hue-gah," this Danish expression is an attitude towards life that emphasizes finding joy in everyday moments. Rather than drudge through the winter, hygge is about celebrating coziness, warmth and family, as well as practicing mindfulness.

Downtown Evanston is hosting a series of hygge events throughout the month of February because let's face it, we all need to get out of our house! Local businesses will host a range of special in-store events - euchre night, knitting lessons, candle-making, candlelight potlucks, fika dates, and more - to promote the idea of coziness, mindfulness and overall well-being. Click on the business name for more info and to register. More events added daily!

February 9, 3-5pm | One River School "Family Workshop: Hygge Art"

February 9, 3-5pm | One River School "Family Workshop: Hygge Art"

One River is joining the fun of Downtown Evanston's Hygge Fest by offering a family art workshop designed to bring a sense of peace and happiness to attendees of all ages. The project will be suitable for all ages and no prior art experience is necessary.

For those who already enjoy making art, this workshop is designed to help share why you love it with your non-artist family and friends.
For non-artists or those with "art anxiety" (see below), this workshop is designed to help you understand where that anxiety comes from and some tips for silencing your inner critic and re-learning to play.

This workshop is specifically created to address the "art-making anxiety" that sets in around middle-childhood and sticks with many people through their adult years. Rather than attempting to create a finished piece of art, instructors will lead you through a play-based "meet the medium" exercise that is more about learning what the art materials can do, rather than focusing on using them to create a finished artwork.

$25 for members and their family members / $35 for non-members

1033 Davis St.
